Abstract

Joseph Ratzinger (1927–2022), a distinguished but polarizing Catholic theologian, extensively addressed the post-Vatican liturgical reform and the resulting issues. This article categorizes, analyzes, and critically assesses these concerns through the lens of modern Liturgical Studies. It compiles a comprehensive overview of Ratzinger’s critiques of the post-Vatican liturgical changes. The essay offers a framework for engaging with Ratzinger’s writings, making them accessible for contemporary liturgical discourse.

Florian Mayr, Paris-Lodron-Universität Salzburg

Florian Mayr lectures at the Department of Classical Studies/Classical Philology at the University of Salzburg. His ongoing doctoral dissertation in Liturgical Studies focuses on the Latin Collects of Advent in the Missale Romanum 1970.
